Geothermal pool heating is the process of pumping water deep underground and back out in order to take advantage of the moderate temperatures underground to heat the water. This greatly improves efficiency and reduces operational costs over traditional pool heaters. By collecting heat from the ground, geothermal pool heating conserves natural resources and is more environmentally friendly.
When air temperatures dip below 50° F, traditional heat pumps have to work extremely hard to heat the water in your pool. Solar heaters are insufficient at these temperatures, not to mention they take up a lot of space. Geothermal pool heat pumps are up to 90% more efficient as other heat pumps and don’t require a lot of space since much of the equipment is underground!
Although it is true that installing a geothermal pool heating system is more expensive than traditional heat pumps, these systems save around 80% in operational costs. Geothermal pool heat pumps also require less maintenance and last longer so it’s a long term investment that will pay for itself over and over again!
